How we serve.

Scale presents a solution that achieves the best of both worlds for water utilities. We coordinate on-site, distributed energy generation assets to optimize costs. But we also maintain power stability, including the option to detach from the utility grid to operate completely autonomously in “island mode.” This provides the resilience water utilities need to avoid dangerous exposure to outages or disturbances.

Scale is working with the District to install, finance, and operate 12MWh of energy storage systems at their water and wastewater treatment facilities. The projects are designed to increase the resilience of the community’s water supplies while also reducing costs.

The Goleta Water District encompasses an area extending along the south coast of Santa Barbara County west from the Santa Barbara city limits to El Capitan. Scale will integrate a battery energy storage system and controllable generator into their existing solar energy system.

Scale will help California American Water utilize the Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP) equity resiliency budget run by the California Public Utilities Commission. The system will provide 24+ hours of clean resilience for the utility and reduce the overall environmental impact of the utility’s operations.The battery systems will completely replace the diesel generator capacity.
